Sun Mee Chomet is one of the 9 real women featured in our new Find Your Perfect campaign. She is also a playwright and artist whose unique point of view is super inspiring. So we probed a little deeper to get her dishing on her nightly beauty routine, her favorite skincare products, and her secret DIY recipes for softer, shinier hair. Read on to learn her secrets, beauties! Then share your own tips and tricks in the comments below.
1. Focus on beauty from the inside out.
I love makeup by really good brands like Nars, Shiseido, Make Up For Ever—but I always like my look to feel natural. So mostly, I try to take care from the inside out. I stay away from processed foods and drink a lot of water. If my skin is healthy, I don’t need a lot of products to cover it up, just things that accentuate.
2. Find your own favorite formulas from different brands.
For lipstick, I love MAC, Chanel, YSL. For mascara, eyeliner, and eyebrow pencils (a good one is really important to me), I love Shiseido. For foundation and powder, I use Make Up For Ever. For brushes, Nars.
3. By day, sunscreen is key, makeup is minimal.
In the morning, I wash my face, and put on moisturizer and Shiseido sunscreen. For makeup, I do a little bit of everything but keep it minimal—cover up, brow pencil, mascara, and lip gloss. Later, if I go to an event, I add more lip color, more eye definition.
4. At night, it’s all about moisturizer.
I exfoliate at least 3 or 4 times a week with a gentle scrub. Then I use this natural Evan Healy rosehip serum. But the biggest secret—for everyone—is that if you moisturize at night you will not age. If you do it during the day it doesn’t matter, because it comes off during the course of the day or gets neutralized by sun and pollution. But at night, your skin is undisturbed for 8 hours, and there are no toxins, just the moisture going straight into your skin. So, moisturize like crazy at night.
5. Do a DIY hair mask while you Netflix and chill.
For deep conditioning, which my hair needs because I’ve dyed it a lot, I’ll make a DIY mask by mixing coconut oil, egg yolks, milk, and honey in bowl. Then I’ll put it in my hair and leave it on for about 4 hours under a shower cap.
6. Use natural oils as body moisturizers, too.
I use almond oil as an allover moisturizer. It absorbs into the skin better and faster than coconut oil, and it feels less slimy.
