Here at eBay Fashion, Rebecca Minkoff has always been one of our favorite designers. A couple of years ago we collaborated with her on a collection of tech accessories for holiday. Then she joined our Designer Collective. And most recently, this fall, we partnered with her to take brick-and-mortar shopping to the next level.
Together, we made her brand new New York flagship a “connected store,” a seamlessly digitalized experience that brings the best of the online world into the physical. Sounds otherworldly, right? But in concrete terms it means you can pre-shop online, get a text when your fitting room is stocked and ready, order a different size—plus a bottle of water—with the touch of a button, and save your favorite items to your online profile while you mull them over.
Watch this quick video to see it all in action:
The NYC digs are open—and a new San Francisco store is about to launch with all the same (digital!) bells and whistles. While the sweet and stunning designer was in town to celebrate the opening we swung by and asked her six quick questions just for fun.
What’s your sign?
What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Half a bagel with cream cheese. I usually have a Think Thin bar, but I ran out.
What was your last great eBay find?
A silver Hermes “Lima” bracelet. It’s one of their classic styles—irregularly shaped with a magnetic clasp. There’s a new version out now but it’s not the same. I got lucky and found one of the original versions.
What was your last good read?
Just Kids by Patti Smith.
What was your last big splurge?
My rose gold and diamond Hoorsenbuhs ring (middle finger, below).
You’re in town to launch your SF store here at 2124 Fillmore Street. What’s next on your to-do list?
We’re opening an LA store! It’ll be 4000 square feet, and a very exciting space, on Melrose in 2015.
If that doesn’t make you want to take a closer look at Minkoff’s colorful bags and must-have accent pieces (like sassy graphic tees and little leather bomber jackets to die for), this is sure to do the trick:
How fun is this woman with everything she does?
