Vogue recently named Gucci’s kangaroo-fur lined slipper “The It Shoe of Fall 2015.” Gucci debuted this $995 leather slipper with signature horsebit detail as part of the fashion house’s buzzed about Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection. Alessandro Michele styled the furry slip-on loafer with pleated pussy bow dresses, silky ladylike blouse and trouser combinations (including a winning pink and marsala pairing), and coats galore, including Charlie Brown-striped and Margot Tenenbaum-esque long fur coats.
These Gucci fur-lined loafers have been the center of heated debates among high fashion footwear fanatics since their introduction. There are plenty of reasons to dismiss this controversial clog: the steep price tag, wild kangaroo sourcing, outdoor impracticality, and general off-putting visual lack of appeal. However, similar backlash was heard ‘round the world when Birkenstocks made a comeback, and you know how we feel about those “ugly shoes.”
Vogue staffers suggest flaunting these fur-lined loafers with slip dresses and kimonos, but only time will tell if this slipper/loafer hybrid will be embraced by mainstream fashion followers like us. Tell us! Would you try this trend? Would you start with a classic leather or suede pair or go straight for the modern mule?
