Chances are even if you’ve got an expertly curated seven-piece wardrobe, a classic button-down shirt is one of the items in your closet that works the hardest. You tuck it in Monday through Friday, and leave it all the way out on weekends. But have you heard of the styling secret that’s about to change the way you look at your beloved button-down? We like to call it the signature “half-tuck.” We employ this styling trick when we want to look polished, but not like we’re trying too hard, and when we want to look dressed down but not dumpy.
The half-tuck, easily achieved by leaving a couple buttons undone at the top and bottom, and slipping either the left or right front quadrant of your button-down into a great pair of boyfriend jeans, leather pencil skirt, or pair of ultra-cool culottes. Cuff your sleeves two or three times, and voila!—your basic button-down is basic no longer.
