Alexis Bittar’s jewelry seems to glow from within. The self-taught jeweler has been working with Lucite—a matte, shatter-resistant, ethereal-looking glass—since he first launched his collection, 25 years ago this winter. To mark this quarter-century anniversary, Bittar invited four contemporary artists to create their own Lucite pieces, which were then auctioned off to benefit the The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York. Until those beauties—by artists Cordy Ryman, Mickalene Thomas, Natasha Law and Juliette Losq—find their way back to eBay, we’ll be watching Bittar’s jewelry with fascination. Impossible not to marvel at the twists and turns and textures of his bracelets: part lava, part leopard, part Lucite, part gold. Each piece is like a little work of art—so this is jewelry we feel good investing in. See a few of our favorite pieces below; to see more of Bittar’s best, click here.
