Whether it’s for luck or to avoid being pinched, wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day has been the thing to do for as long as most can remember. And, in the last decade or so footwear brands have been going green by creating themed sneakers to celebrate the Irish holiday. 1. Ewing Athletics 33 Hi “St. Patrick’s Day”

Former New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing became the first NBA athlete to begin his own line of sneakers back in 1991 lasting into 1996. After a number of years out of production, Ewing Athletics returned in 2012 and has had a successful run, thanks to themed colorways of their popular retro models like the Ewing 33 Hi “St. Patrick’s Day” that released in March of 2014.

2. Nike Dunk Low Pro SB “St. Patty’s Day”

When Nike launched their Nike Skateboarding division in the early 2000’s, a lot of now iconic sneakers flew under the radar. The popularity of Nike SB has seen its ups and downs but sometimes that’s what makes the timing perfect for picking up a sneaker like the Nike SB Dunk “St. Patty’s Day” from 2005. The simple white and green color blocking is timeless and they’ll keep you from getting pinched.

3. adidas Rose 2.5 “St. Patrick’s Day”

Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls celebrated everyone’s favorite Irish holiday back in 2012 by donning green uniforms. D-Rose himself laced up a special green edition of his adidas signature sneaker from that year, the adidas Rose 2.5.

4. Saucony Jazz Low Pro “World Celebration Pack”

In 2013, Saucony jumped into the St. Patrick’s Day celebration with the “World Celebration Pack” version of their iconic running shoe, the Jazz Low Pro. To complete the look, clovers were embossed on the heel and tongue of the shoe and the insole features an image of the Celtic cross.

5. New Balance M990 “St. Patrick’s Day”

One of the most popular New Balance running shoes is the M990. A couple years back, New Balance decided to give the timeless design a St. Patrick’s Day makeover. The New Balance M990 “St. Patrick’s Day” features a green suede upper with shamrock details that make it as much a wall piece as a sneaker. At least until you remember you need to be wearing green for St. Patty’s Day.
