With deconstructed shirting and experimental cutouts, Jacquemus is a name to know in the world of emerging designers. Originating from the south of France, self-taught designer Simon Porte Jacquemus describes his clothing as a form of poetry. “Even a white T-shirt, you have to come to it with a story. I hope that in the world of Jacquemus, there is poetry.” And poetry there is.
Jacquemus began his career in fashion working as a sales clerk at the Comme des Garçons store. In 2009, he launched his own label in Paris. And by 2012, he was one of the youngest designers to ever show at Paris Fashion Week. At first, his shows were very simple—straightforward presentations using his friends as models. But they quickly evolved into surrealist performances. With scenes of a child pushing a giant ball of yarn across the runway. Or models’ faces covered with paper cutouts.
His designs share this experimental surrealism. A niche brand of Parisian minimalism, Jacquemus’ clothing explores playful deconstruction. Avant-garde, experimental, but always wearable. From his oversized coats, to his signature shirting, to his color block wrap jackets—everything is interesting, but nothing is over the top.
The brand began as a sort of low-budget minimalism, but it was announced this fashion week that Jacquemus is expecting over 5 million in sales this year. And while his brand grows up, the designer’s childhood nostalgia remains. And we love the playfulness that his designs bring to the fashion world.
Although this cult brand is only released through niche retailers, you can find key Jacquemus pieces on right here on eBay.
