With fashion week “season” in full swing, I wanted to create a DIY inspired by one of my favorite design houses, Miu Miu. As Prada‘s younger sister brand, I’ve always felt their collections had a rebellious yet playful vibe. These fun Miu Miu-inspired lace-up ballet flats sum that up in a nutshell. Here’s how to easily make a pair at home.
Materials:
- Ballet flats
- Gingham ribbon
- Black Ribbon
- Studded faux leather trim
- Hot glue gun and glue gun sticks
Steps:
1. Try on the ballet flat. Measure the strap length needed to reach from one side of the shoe to the other side. Cut two studded faux leather straps to this length. Then, glue onto the shoe (as shown). Let fully dry.
2. Repeat for the other shoe, as well. Let fully dry.
3. Cut two pieces of gingham ribbon about 30” long. Glue the end of one ribbon to the left interior of one shoe (about 2 1⁄4” from the heel). Then, glue the second ribbon to the right interior of the shoe.
4. Now, do the same to the other shoe, only with black ribbon. (Cut two pieces of black ribbon about 30” long. Glue the end of one ribbon to the left interior of one shoe (about 2 1⁄4” from the heel). Then, glue the second ribbon to the right interior of the shoe.)
