Go, Gabi, Go

Influencers, Persons of Interest  /   /  By Nina Louie

There’s an unspoken expectation that plus-size women should hide their bodies in unremarkable clothes. Consider the controversy that Lena Dunham ignites every time she rocks a body-con look on her hit HBO show Girls or shows off her midriff with a crop top in real life.

In much the same spirit (liberated? revolutionary?), blogger Gabi Gregg skips the so-called rules and wears what she wants to wear. She shares her best beauty and style finds for curvy girls on her blog, GabiFresh. This summer, she went a step further by designing a capsule collection of sassy swimwear for plus-size women, proving that we can all rock a bikini if we want to. Next time you’re on Instagram, check out #gabifreshxswimsexy to see women of all shapes and sizes looking refreshingly comfortable in their own skin thanks in part to Gabi’s designs. That’s why we love of her: she lives and works on her own terms while pushing fashion forward.

Recently, Gabi curated a selection of her favorite eBay Fashion finds for us—check them out here. The best part? It gave us a chance to talk TV bingeing, Sunday brunching, and viral storytelling with the 20-something trailblazer:

Where do you live?

Los Angeles, CA

How long have you been blogging?

7 years! I started in 2008.

Why did you decide to start blogging?

As a plus sized girl, I knew there was a void when it came to resources for young women who loved fashion and were above a size 14. I wanted to give other girls advice and show people that it’s possible to be stylish at any size.

How did fashion blogging eventually lead you to start a swimwear line?

Every time I would post photos of myself wearing bathing suits they’d get a really positive, strong reaction because for so long people would only see certain body types in bikinis. I became known as the plus-size girl who would rock a bikini and my story went viral. The retailer swimsuitsforall then reached out to me about collaborating!

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Everywhere! Movies, TV, runway shows, celebrity fashion, museums…I’m constantly seeing something I love and thinking how I could turn it into a swim design.

Any plans to add more clothing categories to your line? Which ones?

I hope to start a separate fashion line—it’s definitely been a goal of mine for a while. I want to do all clothing categories.

What did you wear today? What was your outfit inspiration?

I’m wearing a white laser cut tee and white distressed denim joggers! It’s actually the outfit in my latest blog post about eBay because I got my accessories from there (Yeezy boosts and sunnies)!

What is your favorite day of the week and why?

I love Sunday afternoons—I’m all about the laid back vibe and eating brunch with friends is the best!

Coffee or tea?

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl.

Smoky eyes or bold lip?

Bold lip.

Silver or gold or rose gold?

Favorite indulgence?

Shopping! Or bingeing on reality TV.

Favorite song right now?

Anything by Fetty Wap.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Being my own boss and setting my own schedule.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

Snuggling with my boyfriend and ordering delivery.

Greatest eBay find ever?

A vintage high-waisted romper!
