We’re about to list all the reasons why we’re drooling over Proenza Schouler’s PS11 in Linosa leather, but first, some fashion trivia to set the stage! Did you know that Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez named their brand after their mothers’ maiden names? And did you know that their first ever collection was actually their Parsons School of Design senior thesis? And did you know that their senior thesis was bought in its entirety by Barneys New York! (Talk about model students, are we right?) Bonus fun fact: Did you know that Proenza Schouler’s first collection was made using fabrics from Michael Kors and factory space from Marc Jacobs, where Lazaro and Jack interned, respectively?
Theirs is a pretty impressive tale. Once Barneys picked up their inaugural collection, things started happening rather quickly for the two mega-talents. The Swarovski award for Ready to Wear in 2003 was followed by the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award in 2004. The pair added the Accessory Designer of the Year award to their growing collection in 2009, and a hat trick of Womenswear Designer of the Year awards was completed in 2013 (the first two having been earned in 2007 and 2011). It’s no doubt the duo’s star was shining brightly, so when they introduced an intentionally anti “It” Bag in 2008, discretely named the PS1 and purposefully void of chains, buckles, locks, keys, mirrors and logos, it’s no surprise an iconic accessory was born once discovered by editors, bloggers, and celebrities ‘round the world.
The PS11 was released two years later, and this more boxy handbag saw instant success. We’re particularly loving a style featuring intricately cross-hatched Linosa leather, the PS11’s signature stud detail, and true to form, a subtle logo hidden beneath the flap. This bag embodies wearable luxury and we believe it will indubitably stand the test of time, which is why there’s no better time to invest in one of Jack and Lazaro’s incomparable creations.
