How Slogan Tees Made a High Fashion Comeback

Apparel, Featured, What's Trending  /   /  By Sarah Wetmore

Seen on Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear Christian Dior, Hood by Air, Haider Ackermann, Stella McCartney, and Sacai catwalks, and included in Vogue’s “The 11 Runway Trends of Spring 2017” and InStyle’s “Fashion Trends We’re Looking Forward to in 2017,” slogan tees are clearly one of the largest and loudest fashion trends that prove impossible to ignore in the upcoming season. Touting statements such as “We should all be feminists”, “The Future is Female”,“Be Your Own Hero”, “No Fur”, “No Leather”, and “Passion is a fashion,” the sentiments expressed by these tees run the gamut from politically to socially driven.

If this recycled style craze feels familiar, you’re not alone. Logo tees have made a recent resurgence due to movements like Vetements’ Champion remix and Adidas’ second life leaning heavily on the brand’s iconic triple stripe and trefoil visual signatures. Going further back in time (to November 2014, to be precise), who could forget the sweatshirt Beyoncé wore in her 7/11 selfie stick-shot video with “Kale” scrawled across the front, that incited an immediate following and eventual overuse of the leafy green’s name? Even Urban Outfitters is getting in on the slogan tee trend with throwback references abounding, including “Napster”, and “America Online.”

So, how do we plan on updating this trend? We’ll start by instead of layering our self expression statements on top of color coordinating popped-collared polos, taking a cue from Christian Dior’s show and wearing our statement tees under black blazers paired with sheer black embellished tulle skirts, and we’ll add any of the following picks to our eBay shopping carts ASAP.

1. “Uh Huh Honey

2. “Namastay In Bed

3. “Rosé All Day

4. “Hi My Name is, Please follow me @

5. “Champagne Campaign

6. I Hate Running

7. “Slay

8. “We Should All Be Feminists

9. “You Can Sit with Us
