When fashion week rolls around we throw all fashion rules aside. Anything goes. And we absolutely love it. For the upcoming NYFW F/W 16 shows, we’ve created 9 diverse outfits for each day. Some are modern and minimalist while others are colorful and outlandish. All will help you start the first big fashion week of the year (sorry, Men’s shows) off with a bang.
Day 1: The Usual Suspects
For the strongest start, your first outfit should be composed of pieces you wear to death. You know they look good, so you’ll feel good as you weave through the crowds on your way into the Arc. This winter, our go-to pieces are an oversized coat, classic chambray, and a great pair of (comfortable) heels.
Day 2: 50 Shades of Blue
A jumpsuit is always a good fashion week idea. It’s one-and-done styling at its finest. We chose a floral jacquard coat for a ladylike look. Soft pink accessories and a smart pair of reading glasses finish this navy power ensemble.
Day 3: Black & White
The classic color combo gets a sporty chic upgrade. You already know how much we love a slip dress. To winterize this little number we layered a mesh sweater and winter bomber on top. Fringe, camo, and color block details keep this outfit looking right on trend.
Day 4: Pretty in Pink
This look is all about springing forward—and it’s a total 180 from yesterday’s look because that’s how fashion week rolls. Sure, it’s frigid outside, but that can’t keep us away from a good floral (#groundbreaking). Plus, colorful furs are all the rage right now and black tights pull it all together.
Day 5: Downtown Minimalism
The best thing about working in fashion? You can show up to work in a T-shirt and sweats and people call it chic. Now that it’s mid-fashion-week Monday, take a breather from high heels and tight-waisted designs. Pair drop crotch pants with an of-the-moment drawstring backpack, then finish the look with a boyfriend maxi coat and shiny platforms. It’s grungy, sexy, and cool.
Day 6: Go Nude
This look is all about iconic American pieces in a creamy color palette cut with little unique details. Shoulder cut-outs and fringe are a big YASSS no matter what the season. And this Maison Margiela bag is perfection.
Day 7: Americana Dream
Now we’re taking red, white, and blue slash stars-and-stripes to a whole other level. Who knew a modern quilted crop jacket, pom-pom beanie, and wide-leg trousers would pair so well together? Black and white accessories punch up the look.
Day 8: Biker Chic
A tough leather jacket always makes us feel ready to take on the world. Juxtapose a fitted feminine dress with a classic white shirt (yes, we chose a cropped one). Then add black, black, and more black. We absolutely love these Alexander Wang Freja Boots, they might just show up on a future “Shoes for Tues” post.
Day 9: “I Woke Up Like This”
Ok, so you hit the snooze button and now what? Instead of trying to come up with a new outfit on the run, fall back on this tried-and-true formula. Pair a simple sweater dress with a chic suede trench and your favorite hoop earrings. Stick to flats cause those extra zzzs might have set you off your game and the last thing you want to do is fall in front of the bloggeratis.
