new york street style: the new '90s grunge So many ‘90s staples here—plaid flannel, stonewashed jeans, a zipper-happy bag, and patent leather Docs. What makes it modern? One thing’s for sure: the gloves. In the color of the season—bordeaux—with a sprinkling of studs, they’re very of the moment. We saw several similar pairs at NYFW. Other than the gloves, though, it’s tough to say what's keeping this look current. The attitude of girl? The pulled-together look of the coat and scarf? Something else?
