NYFW Street Style Trend: The Vintage Tee

The fashion week landscape has changed a lot in the past few years. Bloggers have replaced magazine editors. Presentations have taken precedence over runways. And street style has become more influential—and more casual—than ever.

Gone are the days of arriving to a show in a head-to-toe look borrowed from the designer. This year, the best dressed were dressed down—rocking outfits that you could easily copy using pieces from your closet. There was one familiar style that stood out: the vintage t-shirt. From playing it cool to dressing it up, fashion’s MVPs were all going graphic. Here’s how to get the look:

The Tomboy Effect. Call it an ode to your high school glory days—mix a sporty tee with a flirty mini skirt.

Just Add Chanel. For the perfect high-low look, tuck your vintage tee into sleek, black kick flares and throw on a Chanel bag. Done and done.

Pleats, Please. Slaying two trends in one go, street style stars paired their vintage tees with pleated midi skirts.

Keep it Casual. Nothing beats a good jeans and tee combo. Go for a high-waisted flare leg and a single statement earring for more fashion cred.

Layer On. Influencers are obsessed with t-shirt layering for fall. A rock tee adds an edgy twist to a sleek turtleneck.

Fake It ‘Til You Make It. Found a cheeky tee that only looks vintage? Use it to ride the graphic tee wave. (You can find this amazing Stranger Things style right here.)
