We’re about to round the corner into January, which is the season for new beginnings. If you have a new fitness hobby in mind, we’ve chosen a fabulous and functional athletic shoe for this week’s “Shoes for Tues” feature. It’s a cult classic you can wear to the gym—or anywhere.
The Air Max series is so popular that its day of birth is celebrated around the world by sneakerheads and casual fans alike (just check out all the IG posts tagged #airmaxday). While we usually go for the streamlined silhouette of the women’s Air Max Thea, we can’t deny the wavy appeal of the 95.
What’s the story behind the 95? Well, it was created 20 years ago in 1995. Designer Sergio Lozano took inspiration from the structure of the human anatomy. This shoe also caused a little controversy during the design process because it marked a major departure from the Air Maxes that preceded it—just look at that tiny signature swoosh! Whatever drama it caused, we sure are glad this shoe came to fruition. We love its wavy ombre motif and, of course, its puffy air pockets. But we’re really obsessed with this new orange and grey colorway. Leave it to Nike to keep showing us new shades we never knew we needed.
