If you think Balenciaga was the one who birthed the “ugly sneaker” trend, think again. Back in 2013, Raf Simons and adidas released the Ozweego, a thick-soled, adiPrene- cushioned sneaker that would’ve appealed more to your granddad than your own dad.
And you? You would’ve blown right past it.
Enter, the trendsetting set and high-fashion-yet-normcore “imitators” (looking at you: Balenciaga S and Kanye West’s Yeezy Boost 700). Heck, one can argue that even the Hoka Red Challenger and Brandblack’s Aura sneaker are iterations of Simons’s Ozweego.
Here’s the thing: if you’re looking for Adidas’s trademark three stripes, you’ll be looking for a long time. Like the Ozweego III, the re-released Replicant Ozweego is a deconstructed version of the cult shoe, with cutout panels and its signature two-layer upper moulded EVA midsole and rubber outsole.
Not into the re-released version? Check out the OG Ozweego III, which has a more futuristic look and feel, with its signature, gem-like plastic inserts and high-fashion silhouette.
Now, the question is: which Ozweego colorway will you go for?
