When we hear the term “one-piece,” we can’t help but conjure images of middle school campers cannonballing into a pool with oversized t-shirts layered on top of Speedo brand one-pieces. After camp, there were tankinis. Tankinis gave way to bikinis, bikinis morphed into monokinis, and soon we were closer than ever to dipping our toes back into the one-piece pool.
But the one-pieces we’re talking about today couldn’t be farther from the middle school suits we remember. The one-pieces we want to sport this summer are statement pieces. They cover more skin than their cousin the bikini, but their subtlety is what makes them so appealing. Rest assured, however, while these are more grown-up looking than the two-pieces of our past, they’re still safely out of control top Spanx suit territory. These aren’t meant to mask—they’re meant to make the statement we’ve been championing since spring—give us a pool, palm trees, inflatable donuts, and we’re blissed out for the day—just wake us when the cabana boy comes by to take our drink order!
