The Winter Street Style Trend You Can Steal from Your Father’s Closet

We’ve got to tip the slightly curved brims of our slightly oversized cotton baseball caps to our dads. Pops all across the nation have been earning major street cred by doing what they do best: sporting pleated pants, Hawaiian shirts, New Balance sneakers, and fanny packs. That’s right! The most unlikely of style icons is back. Harry Styles, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, and Drake have all been spotted donning long socks with shorts, stonewashed jeans, tucked t-shirts, and of course, dad hats. But this time we’re not talking about dad hats (which we’re still collecting, btw). Right now, it’s all about dad socks.

Not only do multicolor ribbed knit, textured neutral, black, and gray blend long socks keep us cozy during this dreary doldrums known as winter, but they’re actually super on trend with the street style crowd. Here we’ve rounded up some of our favorite winter street style outfits to inspire you to layer up while looking cute like these real women do. With the new abbreviated pant hemline in vogue, ankles are all the more in the spotlight, so suit up with a new (or borrowed from dear old dad) pair of socks. Pair them with platform tassel loafers, white Nike Classic Cortez leather or Air Max kicks, two-tone oxfords, monochrome pointed toe ballet flats, or chunky ankle boots. Take your new pairing for a spin with patterned trousers, denim jumpsuits, cuffed boyfriend jeans and camouflage slacks, high waist ankle denim, or mom jeans personalized with patches.
