Trend We Love: Off-Duty Dancer

Apparel, Featured, Most Wanted, What's Trending  /   /  By Sarah Wetmore

What’s the only thing better than running weekend errands in yoga pants and leading witnesses to believe you’ve just recently left the studio? Brunching in bodysuits, wrap cardigans, leg warmers, and lace-up ballerina flats that encourage onlookers to play into the dancer fantasy you’re living out in your head, of course. The next iteration of yoga pants as athleisure streetwear is here, and before you call us crazy, just please hear us out.

Valentino’s Fall 2016 Ready-To-Wear collection floated down a runway not lacking in warm-up clothes, footless tights, tulle (of course), bows, and beautiful romantic ruffled gowns. How chic to throw a turtleneck over (or under) your dancer dress du jour and get on with your day! Why not throw a biker jacket or trench coat over your most delicately layered ensemble for an unexpected “I snuck out during intermission for some fresh air between costume changes” effect? We can’t wait to pair these new additions (or somewhat vintage, depending on your adolescent extracurricular choices) with the mixed media belle-of-the-barre-gone-grunge lace-up ballerina flats we fell for from Miu Miu’s Spring 2016 Ready-To-Wear collection.

Next time we go out, we’ll be channeling the ever graceful and strong Misty Copeland and reaching for blush, black, and grey pieces that combine to create abs-baring long sleeve crossover top/high-waisted jeans/simple heel and lace-up ballet flats/denim/white tee winning combinations. Tell us, will you be getting in formation for this on-pointe trend?

Shop center stage worthy picks from Capezio, Diane von FurstenbergRepetto, Christian LouboutinLanvinAquazzura, and leg warmers, too!
