Fall Trend We Love: Ubercool Combat Boots

Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Alicia Vikander, and Grimes. What do these five red carpet superstars have in common? Each graced the 2016 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art clad in Louis Vuitton combat boots, fresh off the Fall 2016 Ready-To-Wear runway. Named by Vogue a top accessory trend of fall 2016, the combat boot is officially back. Flat or heeled, and as tough as they are practical, these boots were just as much made for walking the red carpet as they were the street.

When Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière conceptualized his show, he said, “We had an idea of this trip, of a woman who could be a digital heroine, like Tomb Raider, when she discovers an archaeological site.” Turns out he hit the Tomb Raider nail on the head. On the heels of the her appointment as the post-Jolie Ms. Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander fully embraced her role as she stomped her way down the Met Gala carpet in definitively anti-”clumpy” red, black, and metallic Vuitton boots. As if this power quintet is not enough proof, Valentino, Jimmy Choo, Rag & Bone, Prada, Maison Margiela, Alexander Wang, and Etro showed battle boots during fall 2016 presentations as well. Ready to tap into the streetwear and biker babe trends while simultaneously waging war against stilettos? Here’s what you’ll need: Doc Martens, in silver, or black. Flat lace-up styles embellished with fun graphic details are another option (see the Saint Laurent pair up top), as are simpler block-heeled styles like the below.
