Wanted: A Modern Twist on Fringe

Apparel, Most Wanted, What's Trending  /   /  By Sarah Wetmore

Bohemian fringe is so last season—literally. Spring 2015 shows, including Proenza Schouler, Creatures of Comfort, Tory Burch, Givenchy, and Sonia Rykiel, showed ‘70s-inspired streamer details on a surplus of hems—enough to keep us floating through a fun loving hippie-centric year of easy breezy fun fashion.

However, Spring 2016 shows introduced a modern twist on fringe. Swinging trim was bushy and barber’s pole patterned at Lela Rose and Christian Siriano, gracefully falling from the hem of a statement dress at Alice + Olivia, short and stubby on the side of white leather pants and lining every edge of a green army jacket at Alexander Wang, blanketing dresses and tops at Cynthia Rowley and Edun, embellished at Marc Jacobs, and sandwiched between ruffled and feathered tiers at Sophie Theallet.

This fall, make this embellished trim less boho and more modern by choosing metallic or minimalistic pieces. Make your #OOTD pics look like stop motion center stage dance moments with raw edge pant hems and luxe leather skirts that beg you to shimmy and shake your way down the sidewalk. If you follow one rule of fringe, let your trend-inspired pieces steal the show by keeping the rest of your outfit muted. Shop Topshop, H&M, and Zara for affordable fringe dresses, tops, capes, skirts, and more!
