Wanted: Va Va Velvet!

Vogue recently named velvet one of the top accessory trends of Fall 2016, and one of the 12 overall runway trends of Fall 2016 to boot. Designers and style icons are flocking to the plush fabric just in time for us at home to start planning the seasonal swap between our cropped and frayed summer staples and our richer more indulgent fall favorites. After witnessing Kendall Jenner, our version of perpetual off-duty model #goals, sporting a pair of midnight blue Gianvito Rossi velvet ankle boots with denim cutoffs, a white tee, aviator shades, and a suede fringed jacket, we knew we wouldn’t have to wait until summer’s end to begin rocking the royal texture. Side note: it seems velvet and ankle boots is a killer combo that can’t be beat, as we recently noticed Hailey Baldwin pairing a velvet Vatanika dress with Dior ankle boots that share a similar silhouette to Kendall’s.

One look at Fall 2016 Ready-To-Wear collections and we think you’ll be convinced too: velvet is coming in hot and here to stay through fall. We saw champagne-color silk velvet at Valentino, velvet pant suits at Vetements, lurex-flecked velvet at Baja East, a velvet evening column and crinkly red velvet pants at Haider Ackermann, a futuristic velvet jacquard anorak at Opening Ceremony, velvet dresses at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, velvet platform heels at Rochas, tiger-striped velvet at Roberto Cavalli, and tuxedo-striped velvet sweats at 3.1 Phillip Lim. With summer in parts of Northern California already feeling like fall (looking at you, San Francisco), we say, why wait? We’re stocking up on romantic jewel-tone pieces in lush high-shine velvet on eBay today. Are you with us?
